Day 4 - Arashiyama (Hozu-gawa)

As today was going to be sunny, we decide to go to Kyoto, take a little mountain train, and come back by the river (Hozu-gawa).
We stopped for a little bento on the river side...

... and then we headed for the station. All the trains seemed booked up but we were lucky enough to get 2 cancellations. A few hidden tanukis were the to welcome us.

The train tracks winds around the folds of the mountain, following the river.

We stopped at a station inhabited by very neatly organised tanukis...

... and a demon boarded the train and proceeded to borrow people's phones to take selfies with them.

The way down was a bit more chilled out. The 3 men who gently floated us down the river kept joking as they showed us rocks apparently shaped like random things, and we got to see turtles (or tortoises, I can never remember which one is which, ...

(Don't look too hard, I missed them)

...a black kite (tobi in Japanese), ...

... monkeys, ...

... a cormoran(t) (ētone), ...

... and a few herons.

Just before the end of the ride, a boat accosted ours to sell us fresh drinks and nibbles.

We then went for a walk in a bambouseraie.

And as we got back towards the station going to see a few temples on the way, they were of course closed.

Here's the state of my feet at the end of that day :

Yep, that seems to be just from a mosquito bite above the ankle !
Once again, not to worry, my foot shouldn't need sawing off. I'm still walking and the swelling has gone down.
